(Washington, D.C.) — The American Battlefield Trust just announced a full schedule of exciting tour, hike and lecture offerings to engage budding and seasoned historians alike throughout 2025. From hikes through some of the Civil War’s defining battlefields to explorations of iconic figures in American military history, attendees will walk away with a deeper appreciation for the nation’s past. Space is limited and those interested are encouraged to register soon. A complete list of events is available here.
“Place-based education is an incomparable way to gain an understanding of our great nation’s history,” said David Duncan, president of the American Battlefield Trust. “The stories shared through these tours and hikes and the perfect opportunity to learn about what happened on our nation’s hallowed ground and highlight why the work of the Trust is so vital today.”
“These events are an incredible opportunity to connect with people who share a passion for history,” added Trust Chief Historian Garry Adelman, who will host several of the tours and lectures. “I look forward to embarking on these exciting journeys through time with all those interested in learning more about our past.”
10 different tours on battlefields, including Gettysburg, Antietam and Fredericksburg, are among the events being offered, each with a specific focus on a pivotal location or historical figure. Some excursions are structured as a hike with several miles of walking, while others include only moderate activity. Each tour clearly describes the level of difficulty in the event description and will last around three hours.

For those unable to take a tour in person, there are a multitude of online lectures to explore topics across all areas of American history. From “The Shot Heard ‘Round the World” to the wounding of James Longstreet, various Trust experts and special guests will present on a wide array of topics to pique the interest of any historian.
Every hike and tour has a registration fee, ranging from $35.00 to $65.00, with the online lecture fees spanning $5.50 to $12.50. The fees support the Trust’s mission and education efforts, allowing the nonprofit to offer quality programming worldwide, and pay for the associated permits for tours and events. Members of the Trust receive a $35.00 discount on their registration by using a special code emailed to them directly.
The Trust is actively working with partners to organize additional events for the remainder of 2025 and will be added to the Trust’s website as they become available.
